Collection Priority Order in Droid Tycoon: What to Collect First

The best collection priority order in Droid Tycoon follows your next rebirth. Collect the droids the next rebirth requires, then raise the tiers that appear in more than one requirement, then spend Upgrade Chips on Legendary droids. Everything else waits until a rebirth needs it or you have surplus.

This guide turns that rule into a repeatable order. It uses the published rebirth requirements for levels 1 to 10, the chip costs for tier upgrades, and a method for checking your own account instead of copying a generic list.

TL;DR

  • Rank every droid by the earliest rebirth that needs it, not by rarity or by how strong it looks.
  • Droids that appear in several rebirth requirements at rising tiers (BU-4D, Groundmech, ARG, R9) get tier-ups before one-off droids.
  • Chips go to Legendary droids first: the Gold tier costs 400, Diamond 1,200 and Rainbow 4,000 according to one upgrade cost guide.
  • Never upgrade a droid you plan to sell, and re-rank after every rebirth.

Why collection order matters

Droid Tycoon gates progress through rebirth. Each rebirth level asks for a credit total and a set of droids at specific tiers. A droid in your collection that no rebirth needs soon is storage, not progress. A missing droid that blocks the next rebirth stalls the whole account, however many credits you hold.

Some droids also spawn slowly. One rebirth guide notes that rarer droids can take a long time to spawn, so the cost of collecting late is time, not only chips. That is the argument for ranking by requirement: it tells you which droids to hunt while credits accumulate in the background.

The rebirth requirements that drive the order

The table below lists rebirth levels 1 to 10 as published in a full rebirth requirements list. Requirements can change with game updates, so check the in-game rebirth screen before you commit chips.

Rebirth levelCreditsDroids required
110,000CB (Basic), Pit (Basic), DRK-1 Probe (Basic)
2150,000BDX Explorer (Basic), 2BB (Basic), Bal-Core (Basic)
3975,000A-LT (Basic), BU-4D (Basic), R9 (Gold)
42.95 millionARG (Gold), B1 Security (Gold), Groundmech (Basic)
55.35 millionBU-4D (Gold), HOV-R (Gold), R9 (Diamond)
69.85 millionGroundmech (Gold), ARG (Diamond), A-LT (Diamond)
714.5 millionBB (Gold), B1 Security (Diamond), BU-4D (Diamond)
836 millionUTIL-TEC (Gold), LO (Gold), HOV-R (Diamond)
989 millionGroundmech (Rainbow), R6 (Gold), TRAK-R (Gold)
10220 millionLO (Rainbow), HAUL-R (Rainbow), Strike-Orb (Gold)

Two patterns stand out. Early levels ask for Basic droids, which cost little. From level 3 on, the same droids return at higher tiers, so one droid can be required again at Gold, then at Diamond, then at Rainbow.

The priority order, step by step

Droid collection priorities in progression order

Step 1: Fill the next rebirth

List the droids your next rebirth needs and mark which you own at the required tier. Any gap here outranks everything else. If you are on rebirth level 2 and lack Bal-Core (Basic), that droid comes before any upgrade. The BAL-CORE page shows its stats, variants and effect, which helps when you decide whether it is worth keeping beyond the requirement.

Step 2: Collect Basic copies of droids needed one level later

Basic versions are cheap and often arrive through normal play. If level 3 needs A-LT (Basic) and BU-4D (Basic), you can pick those up while you are still working on level 2. Collecting one level ahead keeps spawn luck from becoming a bottleneck.

Step 3: Tier up the droids that repeat

This is where most players lose chips. Count how often each droid appears across the next several levels, then upgrade the ones that repeat first. From the table above:

DroidAppears atTiers required
BU-4DLevels 3, 5, 7Basic, Gold, Diamond
GroundmechLevels 4, 6, 9Basic, Gold, Rainbow
ARGLevels 4, 6Gold, Diamond
R9Levels 3, 5Gold, Diamond
B1 SecurityLevels 4, 7Gold, Diamond
HOV-RLevels 5, 8Gold, Diamond
A-LTLevels 3, 6Basic, Diamond
LOLevels 8, 10Gold, Rainbow

A droid that returns at a higher tier is a chip investment you will need to make eventually. A droid that appears once, such as BB at Gold on level 7, only needs its single upgrade when you reach that level.

Step 4: Spend chips by rarity

Step 4: Spend chips by rarity — overview diagram

The same upgrade cost guide advises saving Upgrade Chips for Legendary and Mythic droids, because Common, Rare and Epic droids are cheap to upgrade through normal play and Sandcrawler spawns. It also recommends taking a Legendary droid to Gold before attempting a rebirth, since the 400-chip cost is manageable early and the stat boost carries into the next cycle.

That gives a chip order:

  1. Droids required by the next rebirth at Gold or higher.
  2. Legendary droids at Gold (400 chips each).
  3. Repeating droids that need Diamond on a later level.
  4. Legendary droids at Diamond (1,200 chips).
  5. Rainbow upgrades (4,000 chips), only for droids a rebirth demands.

The Rainbow step is where progress usually slows, so confirm a droid is on a real requirement before paying for it.

Step 5: Leave surplus droids alone

Do not upgrade a droid you plan to sell. Chips spent on a sale item do not come back. Hold duplicates of required droids until the rebirth is done, then sell what no later level needs.

A worked example: planning from level 4

Say you are about to attempt level 4 and own most Basic droids. The requirements are ARG (Gold), B1 Security (Gold) and Groundmech (Basic).

  1. Confirm the gaps. You lack B1 Security at Gold. That is your first chip target.
  2. Look ahead one level. Level 5 needs BU-4D (Gold), HOV-R (Gold) and R9 (Diamond). You already hold R9 at Gold from level 3, so the Diamond upgrade is the only cost there.
  3. Look two levels ahead. Level 6 needs ARG at Diamond. ARG is already a level 4 requirement, so its Gold upgrade is on the path to Diamond with no wasted spend.
  4. Check credits. Level 4 needs 2.95 million credits. If credits are the slower side, collect droids now and upgrade later, because chips sit idle otherwise.

This walk-through takes a few minutes and prevents the common mistake of buying a Diamond upgrade for a droid that no near level needs.

When the order changes

The order is not fixed. Three situations push it around:

  • Rebirth just completed. Droids tied to the finished level may now be surplus. Re-rank against the new next level.
  • A game update changes requirements. Check the in-game screen and the Droidex release notes for tool changes that follow.
  • Nova Crystals open new options. Nova pays for core upgrades such as max health, damage and movement speed, plus workshop improvements like an extra lounge slot and a collect-all option, according to a Nova Crystal guide. Those upgrades are separate from droid tiers, so budget Nova on its own track.

The Nova Shop Planner helps you sequence Nova purchases without touching your chip budget, and the base income, Nova and chip cost tools cover the arithmetic for upgrade costs.

Common mistakes

  • Ranking by rarity alone. A Legendary droid that no rebirth needs ranks below a Basic droid that blocks level 3.
  • Upgrading in isolation. Pushing one droid to Rainbow while a Basic requirement is missing leaves the rebirth blocked.
  • Forgetting the repeat. Selling a Gold droid after one level, then needing it at Diamond two levels later, costs you the tier twice.
  • Ignoring daily rolls. The upgrade cost guide suggests using the Pit droid daily roll on your highest-rarity droid to reduce chip spending over time.
  • Planning from memory. Requirements are long lists with similar names. Track them in a tool or a sheet.

Our perspective

We built Droidex Companion because collection priority is a data problem, and most players solve it by memory. The question "what do I need next?" depends on your current rebirth level, the tiers you own, the chips you hold and what later levels will ask for. That is four variables, and they change every session.

We think the correct order is the one you can verify against your own account. A static list goes stale after an update and cannot know that you already own a Gold ARG. That is why the app reads your stats with local screen recognition while you play, then lays rebirth planning and collection management next to the live numbers. Your data stays on your machine, and the main features are free.

Our advice is plain: rank by requirement, tier up the repeats, spend chips on Legendary droids, and re-rank after each rebirth. Do that for a few levels and the order becomes habit.

Quick reference: ranking a droid in 30 seconds

Ask these questions in order. Stop at the first yes.

  1. Does the next rebirth require this droid at a tier you lack? Collect or upgrade it now.
  2. Does the rebirth after next require it at Basic? Collect it while you wait on credits.
  3. Does it repeat at higher tiers across the next several levels? Tier it up before one-off droids.
  4. Is it Legendary and below Gold? Take it to Gold for 400 chips if chips are idle.
  5. Is it needed at Rainbow within two levels? Save toward the 4,000-chip step.
  6. Does none of this apply? Hold it, or sell it without upgrading.

The questions work at any rebirth level, including those past 10 that are not covered in the table above. For later levels, read the current requirement from the game, since published lists for the late levels disagree between sites.

FAQ

What is the best order to collect droids in Droid Tycoon?

Collect by rebirth requirement: first the droids your next rebirth needs, then Basic droids needed one level later, then tier-ups for droids that repeat. Rarity is a secondary factor. A Basic droid that blocks rebirth outranks a Legendary droid that no level needs yet.

Which droids should I upgrade first?

Upgrade droids that the next rebirth requires at Gold or above, then those that return at Diamond or Rainbow on later levels. Among free choices, Legendary droids give the best return on chips, and the Gold step costs 400. Skip any droid you plan to sell.

Do I need to keep droids after a rebirth?

Only if a later level requires them, often at a higher tier. BU-4D, for example, appears at levels 3, 5 and 7 in the published table, so selling it early means collecting it again. Check upcoming levels before you sell.

Does Droidex Companion cost anything?
